Beskrivelse
This 212-page publication is a word-for-word transcription of the first two Minute Books of the Stewart County, Tennessee County Court (Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions), covering the years 1804-1812. These minute books have been microfilmed, but parts of them were only microfilmed in 2011. The minutes for 1804-1807 have previously been available in print form only via the 1930's WPA transcription available only at the Tennessee State Library and Archives. The minutes for 1808-1812 have never been available in print form until this publication. This publication is a fresh transcription of the original records and not a re-issue of the WPA transcription, and also includes the court Dockets for the same period. County Court Minutes include, but are not limited to: - Summaries of legal cases, both civil and criminal - Road crew orders (an excellent source for pinpointing where someone lived in the county) - Jury lists - Recording of livestock marks (a predecessor to branding) - Probate of deeds (the actual deeds being recorded separately in the Deed books) - Probate of wills (the actual wills being recorded separately in the Settlements and Bonds books) - Delinquent tax lists - Elections/appointments of county officials Therefore, County Court Minutes are an excellent source for proving early residency in the county.
