The basic formulation of the Stark Law is as follows: If a physician (or his or her immediate family member) has a financial relationship with an entity (e.g., s/he rents office space from a hospital), the physician may not refer designated health services to such entity, and the entity may not bill for such services, unless an exception (or waiver) is satisfied.
