Sports enthusiasm between society, gender and intense emotion

This book deals with the sports culture in Austria and the sports enthusiasm of the spectators. The fan culture and the sport itself are very strongly influenced by the current social circumstances. For this reason, special attention will be paid to the social components of this field. In particular, the motivations of the population to actively and passively participate in sports, the parallels between the values and norms of sports and society as well as the gender aspects of this topic will be examined. Just as important as the societal influences are the fans themselves and so this book also looks at their motivations, emotions and the staged nature of fan culture. The corona pandemic that prevailed during the writing process was used to look at the field from this very incisive aspect as well.
