Beskrivelse
Space Shifters features approximately 20 leading international artists whose work addresses the intersections of perception, sculptural space and architecture--among them Leonor Antunes, Larry Bell, Fred Eversley, Jeppe Hein, Ann Veronica Janssens, Alicja Kwade, Daniel Steegmann Mangran , John McCracken, Helen Pashgian, DeWain Valentine and Richard Wilson. Beginning with the pioneering use of innovative sculptural materials in the 1960s, the book explores the ways in which artworks engage or alter the viewer's perception of the surrounding architecture. The development of these concerns is traced over the course of the past four decades and concludes with artworks from the present day.
Comprising a choreographed series of responses to, and interventions in, the Hayward Gallery building, Space Shifters highlights the often contingent, context-sensitive nature of artworks and architecture alike, while probing how this intertwining of identities reshapes the visitor's own perceptual awareness.
