A beautiful young Jewish woman flees Russia with her family in the 1880's. She arrives on New York City's Lower East Side where she falls in love with a handsome anarchist and, under his influence, becomes a revolutionist as well. The novel illustrates the life of the 19th Century Jewish immigrant and tackles political and social issues that remain relevant today.
