The path to achieving your dreams is rarely straightforward. But when you’re helping someone else reach their goals in a land far away from home, things can get even more complicated.
Son of a Dog is the true story of what happened when two Brits left their everyday lives behind to help an Indian family build a guesthouse in an idyllic coconut grove in Kerala. Driven by a desire to help, Jacques and Queenie soon discover that good intentions and hard work aren’t always enough.
As well as the practical challenges of building the guesthouse itself, the pair realise the biggest hurdle they face is overcoming cultural differences, clashes in attitude and expectation, leading to frustration, misunderstandings and conflict. The resulting project was intended to be much more than a simple charitable endeavour. It is a labour of love and a testament to what can happen when people put aside their differences and work together to create something positive for the future.
Son of a Dog is a hopeful, inspiring and sometimes amusing account, which paints a vivid picture of life in a beautiful coastal resort in India during the 1990s.
