As a beautiful Mulatto woman, Love, battles with the grand idea of God being able to restore her family after her doctors have given her a tentative expiration date, the story of her troubled life unfolds in this classic narrative Born in an era when the ugly face of racism plagued society, especially in the South, Love's racist grandparents face the day their daughter, Ms. Minnie, gives them the surprising news that she's pregnant by an African American man while she's away from home attending college. Even before Love can make it out of Ms. Minnie's womb, her life is surrounded by tragedy. Ms. Minnie and the love of her life, Mr. Harry Lennon, give Love a beautiful upbringing in rural Whiteville, North Carolina. When an unexpected misfortune falls on the family, Ms. Minnie is forced to raise Love alone. Love's life begins spiraling out of control leading her down a lifelong path of drug addiction, prostitution, and heartbreak. Ms. Minnie ends up having to raise Love's three children, Bryce, Alexia, and Deon as she watches Love and the children's father, Diondre, waste away precious years battling personal demons that wouldn't take their hands off of them. The oldest of the children, Bryce, may not have had such an ill-fated future had Love and Diondre dealt with their demons earlier in their lives. God uses a very special place and the youngest of the children, Deon, 8, to answer one of the most sincere prayers Love ever prayed in this heartfelt tale of Love.
