A Guide to Finding God in the Everyday World
Something to Think About is a compilation of stories, poems, big ideas, small observations, and Bible verses collected and written to help the readers learn to see the hand of God at work in their everyday lives and to provide material to assist preachers and teachers in their preparation of sermons and lessons.
From stories told by children to custom license plates, from visits to the hospital to visits to the home and garden center, from dinner at a restaurant called The Grumpy Monk to dinner with an actual grumpy monk; from a study in homiletics to a post-note stuck on a tree; Pastor James Wells finds and shares evidence of God's work in the most unexpected places. In these short essays and poems, he chronicles a life focused on family, friendships, and faith.
"Something to think about, and that's today's Bright Spot from Norton Christian Church."
Those words, or similar words, have aired over 40,000 times on radio stations in Southwest Virginia where Pastor James Wells has served Norton Christian Church since 1984.
Known as "Bright Spots," the 60-second broadcasts are designed to present a positive Christian message, offer encouragement to those who may be discouraged, and illustrate Biblical truths in a way that are entertaining, often humorous, and always thought-provoking.
This book of Christian-based devotional readings from the editor of "Retreat of the Soul" offers a collection of "Bright Spot" stories, "Big Thing" Ideas, and "Good Stuff" to accompany the reader along their walk with Christ and to share with others along that path. Each selection is coupled with related readings from the Bible to contemplate as the reader reflects on the message and how it relates to their own life and spiritual journey.
"Something to Think About: Bright Spots, Big Things, and Good Stuff for Your Soul" offers plenty for Christians at all points of their spiritual growth to contemplate and reflect upon as they navigate their day-to-day life.
"The Church of Jesus is designed by Jesus for everyone to fit in. While we all have different personalities, gifts and abilities, we form one Body in Christ. The Church really is a place we can call home." ~ James Wells
"Good faith submits an unknown future to an all-knowing God."~ James Wells
"If you ever see a note attached to a tree, take a minute and read it. Maybe it is a message you need to read, a truth you need to ponder, or a story you need to share. Maybe it is just the something you need to think about." ~ James Wells
