SOME CAME TOGETHER

Novelist Henry Roberts spent twenty-four hours in Key West. It wasn't the first time. Now he's promised himself it was the last all-nighter in the Southernmost City. What transpired has changed his life. He's still mulling over everything that went down.

He's found his next novel so he's encouraged with that. And he's back home in Matecumbe. But he's wrestling with his conscious. He almost cheated on his girlfriend Finee with his hand up the dress of a beautiful woman named Star that his father Jake later informed him was a transsexual. His brother Corky he left on the island cold stone dead in the Key West morgue and Henry last saw Jake standing on the deck of a shrimp boat conspiring to move two hundred fifty pounds of cocaine.

It doesn't take the middle of hurricane season to remind Henry even though they've had seven named storms already there's surely more tempests to come. So it feels good to be home. Get together with Finee and tell her he wants to get married regardless if she is pregnant or not. Then get down to life with her and the business of writing.

Until next week rolls around when Henry goes back to Key West. So he can pick up Corky's ashes and bring them to his mother in Northeast Florida. Where he's hoping she'll explain why she kept the secret from them that Jake was Corky's father. Then he's done with his family. Henry and Finee are going to start their own family and bury the bones of the past. That's his plan.
