Proverbs provides compelling answers to the questions 'What is godly wisdom?' and 'Why should one get it?' But at the end of one's life, answers often address the past, not eternity. Godly wisdom allows one to thrive in a sinful world. However, Solomon's teaching in Proverbs was limited as Jesus Christ had not yet entered the world.Old Testament wisdom established a pathway that would lead to a destination through the redemptive death and resurrection of the one who is 'the way, the truth, and the life' (John 14:6) for all who believe in Jesus Christ. Without Jesus Christ as the embodiment of eternal godly wisdom, we are likely to slip into trying to apply the wisdom of Solomon to perform our way through life like the Pharisees. The premise of this book is that Solomon's teaching about the beginning of wisdom is completed in Jesus Christ, as shown in John's Gospel and applied in James's letter 'to the twelve tribes scattered among the nations' (James 1:1).The author examines 'what, why, and so what' answers that Jesus modeled, taught, and promised about godly wisdom. He also explores James's eight 'so what' practices for developing wisdom with an eye toward eternity.
