Teenaged sleuths investigate a dark murder mystery
"Oh, there's those gorgeous girls," Regina crowed. "Pepi Nok and Cheyne Somerset. They make me think of glazed marble bookends, you know, like perfect statuettes only polar colors, dark and light.
Cheyne and Pepi are 16-year-old beauty pageant princesses sitting on a flowery float waving their white gloved hands at the public as they pass by in the annual May Day Parade. It's a beautiful day that ends in ghastly tragedy.
The teens join the horrified throng circling the grisly site on a float that didn't go out in the parade. Lying dead in the center of the float is Lareina Castilla.
Lareina was a well-known vain, very mean girl so, although she'd been ruthlessly murdered, no one is too upset over her gruesome demise, and the police are only halfheartedly pursuing a suspect.
When Megan Milan, Cheyne's beloved teacher is framed for a deadly bombing, the teens believe that travesty and Lareina's murder are connected. The amateur sleuths vow to bring Megan's framer to justice, and expose Lareina's killer.
As the girls follow the evidence to the despicable suspects, their own lives hurl into dire danger when they uncover an insidious plot to put the entire state in deadly peril.
In the midst of all this, Pepi's nightmarish childhood drags her down into a dark, harrowing spiral that she may be unable to climb out of.
Their very lives in terrifying jeopardy, will the teens live to see justice prevail? Will Pepi survive her atrocious past to live happily ever after? Will each girl find her own romantic hero? Read on and find out!
