A murder suicide investigation at Langsdale House raises significant concerns for Inspector Bradstreet of Scotland Yard--but his superiors consider the matter closed. When Dr Wallace Houston-Smythe, a well-respected medical man, apparently kills his stepson, Harold Houston, and then himself, Inspector Bradstreet's misgivings on the detail of both deaths leads him to seek advice from Sherlock Holmes. With Holmes persuaded to investigate, he and Dr Watson follow clues leading deep into the heart of high-society London.
