Beskrivelse
Improving infant and young child feeding is a key component and the most effective intervention in child survival and growth programs. The main objective of the present study is to assess the nutritional status of infants aged 24 months and to evaluate the proportion of fat and protein in their consumption. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study by surveying 235 mothers of infants aged 24 months, to assess the dietary profile of these infants with emphasis on the share of fat and protein given their importance in the rebound of adiposity in children. The study also addressed the role of breastfeeding and analyzed women's knowledge and practices regarding their infants' diet. The results obtained for the age and quantities of food introduction, are not in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization in 2013. It seems necessary to rely on the WHO/UNICEF recommendations in order to promote adequate feeding for infants.
