Beskrivelse
Among books on ayahuasca and Amazonian shamanism, Andrew Osta's memoir is unique. It is entirely based on diary entries, written in real time. This has the effect of taking the reader on the journey along with the author. As the book was being written, the author had no idea what would happen next. As a reader, one has the same experience.
Andrew Osta is a successful artist who left his comfortable life in Canada to find a shaman who would teach him the mysteries of the Amazon jungle. This led to an 8-month long shamanic apprenticeship.
Parallel to the apprenticeship runs a love story. As events unfold, it becomes more and more clear that the shamanic path is incompatible with family life. And then, paradoxically, when the young apprentice is already seeing results, such as supernatural abilities and visions of normally unseen spirits, he decides to renounce it all and begin a new life. His main question then becomes "How"? As events continue to unfold and he finds himself in the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico, the answer finally becomes clear.
