Beskrivelse
To avoid misleading his readers, the translator emphatically states in the introduction that he is not a Shakespeare expert or scholar. He uses translation most often as a tool to deepen his own understanding of the subject matter. A study guide like this one is actually a byproduct of what he has learned through translation. It is his desire to make the task of poetry learning easier for the bilingual students. This book offers the following features not normally found in similar publications: 1. The availability of three translated versions, two in Chinese and one in English. 2. The first book using both Chinese truncated verse and vernacular rhymed verse as the forms for translating the sonnets. 3. The opportunity to become familiar with the tonal patterns of traditional Chinese poetry while studying Shakespeare's sonnets. 4. The advantage of reading or studying poetry from a cross-cultural perspective. 5. The benefit of improving one's bilingual skills while studying poetry. Note: The English version is a reverse translation that is translated from the Chinese version, not directly from the original sonnets.
