Septuaginta. Band 11,2

English summary: One of the founding goals of the Septuagint Project of the Academy of Sciences at Gottingen in 1908 was to publish, in a major critical series, the oldest surviving texts of the Septuagint. The purpose of such a series, and the work carried out by it, is to assemble the most complete collection possible of those manuscripts of the Septuagint that have an attested provenance. This collection includes Greek papyri from the 2nd and 3rd century BCE and continues all the way to miniscule manuscripts from the 16th century. This chronological range is also geographically and culturally broad, including sources written in Latin, Coptic, Syriac, Ethiopian, and Armenian as well as citation of the Septuagint from the writing of the Church Fathers, both Greek and Latin. This includes the so-called "Catenarum" tradition as well as printed edition of the Septuagint from the 16th to the 20th century. This series now publishes for the first time Peter Gentry's work on the complete critical edition of the "Book of Ecclesiastes." This text is volume XI in the series "Septuaginta" in the Gottingen critica maior edition. German description: Die Herausgabe der grossen kritischen Edition des altesten erreichbaren Septuaginta-Textes ist Ziel des 1908 gegrundeten Septuaginta-Unternehmens der Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Gottingen. Anspruch und Aufgabe einer solchen Edition ist die auf moglichste Vollstandigkeit angelegte Erfassung und transmissionsgeschichtliche Auswertung der handschriftlichen Uberlieferung, angefangen mit den griechischen vorchristlichen Papyri (3./2. Jh. v.Chr.) bis hin zu den Minuskelhandschriften des 16. Jh. n.Chr., sodann der lateinischen, koptischen, syrischen, athiopischen und armenischen Tochterubersetzungen, ferner der Septuaginta-Zitate bei den griechischen und lateinischen Kirchenschriftstellern unter Einschluss der sog. Jh.Erstmals erscheint mit Peter Gentrys Arbeit eine vollstandige kritische Edition des Buches "Ecclesiastes". Der vorliegende Band XI bildet den 2. Band der Gesamtreihe "Septuaginta" und setzt so die Gottinger Editio critica maior fort.
