Seismic tomography offers the prospect of being able to map directly the structure of the mantle circulation. This book brings together the research that has been done towards this aim and discusses the way it is thought that the mantle circulation has evolved and how this relates to present day geological activity. Distinguished scientists from the fields of geophysics, seismology and fluid dynamics present their findings and highlight the present disagreement and the possible fruitful areas for future research.
