THIS IS THE SECOND BOOK IN THE TRILOGY LILIES OF THE UNDERGROUND
JANET POLASKY'S UNDERGROUND NETWORK IS UP AND RUNNING.
Janet Polasky, a minister at St. Luke's Methodist Church in Bellevue, Washington, vowed to help women escape violent partners. She witnessed a congregation member gunned down in a parking lot by her abusive husband. Never again!
After a rough start, they had their first success. Then reality set in. Her next client is the wife of a wealthy and powerful politician. He will stop at nothing to get her back. His first strike is the abduction and murder of an ally and friend of Janet's. The minister and her allies struggle to find a way through this. It seems, though, that this U. S. senator has an endless supply of willing and enthusiastic collaborators who share his lack of conscience.
In the midst of this crisis, Janet is beset by other demands on her time. The daughter of the murdered congregation member turns to Janet for help. The young girl, Abby, is living the nightmare of being an orphan whose father killed her mother. Abby's grandmother, who has custody of the girl, is herself beset by the demons of tragedy, making the situation near impossible.
Janet's colleagues from other churches in the area are drawn to the issue, some on her side. Others become her fiercest opponents. The King Country Church Association becomes yet another battleground with its own share of casualties.
When it seemed that things could get no worse, Janet learns that an assassin-a warrior for his cause-is hunting and killing domestic violence workers in the Pacific Northwest. A friend barely escapes death and Janet finds herself at the top of his hit list.
With the help of her friends, Janet begins to understand that these events and developments are not independent and isolated. Everything is connected.
