Catching the attention of a powerful phoenix wasn't a part of agent Merrick Vale's plans when he'd flirted with a handsome bar patron for cover during a mission. As a hellhound, his dark magic affiliation is opposite to the phoenix's light. He just wants to round up criminals for the Eyrie Towers, a group that had once been his enemy, and maintain acceptance from his pack leader. Besides, the phoenix's interest in him is only a passing fancy... surely.

Felix Eyrie has freshly returned to the city take up his late phoenix grandmother's position as an Eyrie Towers' council member. Intrigued by the lonely agent, he's thrilled when Merrick is assigned to bring him along for a check-in with his old friend- until they discover the lifeless body.

Assigned to the case, Merrick feels the mounting pressure to solve it quickly as more victims are found. Dare he access the secret part of himself to track down the killer; a part considered the monster of monsters? Furthermore, he needs Felix's help- if not with the case, then for his heart.
