This publication offers an in-depth examination of Schuyler County, Missouri's rich history, from the early settlers and their way of life to the growth and development of the county over the years. Beginning with Schuyler's boundaries and topography, the author paints a vivid picture of the county's geography and landscape. Following up, the author then recounts the story of settlement and the first interactions between the local Indians and explorers. This work then provides a list of land entries made prior to the year 1850, and delves into the topics of agriculture, the organization of the county, names of County Representatives, Court Clerks, Recorders, Sheriffs, Treasurers, and other important individuals, politics, taxes, the courts, a list of the circuit court judges, military affairs including a roster of military officers, the establishment of towns and cities, the press, education, and religion. Several biographies of county locals are used to conclude this work, along with a full-name index.
