As the second born, Sarah, Say to her family, never gets to be the first one to do anything. So when it's big sister Ruth's first day of school, Say is not happy. And mama is busy, so Say has to spend the day with Father working on the farm, usually a fine way to spend the day, but not this time. But maybe the day will be full of first for Say after all!
