Beskrivelse

Toward the end of the US Civil War, General W. T. Sherman began a 'scorched-earth' campaign known as his "March to the Sea." Beginning in Chattanooga, Tennessee, he and his 62,000 troops moved down through Atlanta, Georgia, and then on to the east coast at Savannah, then up through South Carolina. This would become the bloodiest, costliest military campaign of the Civil War and bring an end to the conflict - but at great cost to the South's people and its pride. Just outside Atlanta lay a small town called Madison; for some unknown reason, Sherman made an exception and did not burn Madison to the ground as he did so many others. Several legends exist about precisely why he spared this town; some involve pro-Union politicians, others say that the town was 'too beautiful to burn, ' and another suggests that a beautiful woman was somehow involved... Saving Madison is a fictional account of this event that entwines all three legends to make a powerful story. A young girls innocence, betrayal and then her eventual redemption are interwoven throughout a colorful tapestry of war, suffering, loss and human drama. Learn about who General Sherman really was - the man behind the war destruction. Immerse yourself in the manners, society and simmering conflict of those years as you read and enjoy Saving Madison
