For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:3"I was confronted by someone...who asked me, 'Are you saved?' My reply was 'Saved from what?' He was taken aback by my question. He obviously hadn't thought much about the meaning of the question he was asking people" Many people memorized passage early in your Christian walk. You know that salvation is by grace a free gift to the undeserving and cannot be earned by any good work or the compilation of good works. You understand that faith is in essence trust. You know that you have been "saved" by grace through faith. But let me put Sproul's question to you: Saved from what?I'm going to let you chew on that for a while. A believer needs to know the answer. What is it exactly that you have been saved from? Same place, same time tomorrow for some more discussion.Father, let us meditate on this verse today. Salvation is something we must understand and appreciate. Motivate us to know from your Word and from you what it means to be saved. In Jesus' name. Amen.
