When vampires are Changed by their sires, they forget their past lives. Everything they knew, every person they loved, is forgotten in that moment of transformation.
All Cate knows about her past is that she was Changed and then abandoned by her sire. As an Orphan, she had to learn how to navigate the Other world on her own. Her survival was based on her ability to learn and adapt. Along with other Outsiders, Cate has become part of an Other squad-- supernatural crews designed to protect and serve the supernatural community and keep humans from knowing the full scope of supernatural abilities.
And Cate has a dangerous secret that threatens her survival, should it ever be discovered. Not only can she not tolerate drinking live blood-- blood from a living victim-- but her blood may hold secrets that other vampires would kill to keep secret.
But there are other vampires out there that are like her. They, too, were Changed and abandoned by their sire.
They, too, have the blood of ancient gods running through their veins.
They, too, may have been Changed for a purpose.
