Beskrivelse

In the late 1800s, young Samuel Lancaster is felled by polio. After a promising beginning as a civil engineer, he is forced to spend a year and a half lying in bed, paralyzed. When he learns of a paralyzed boy who draws pictures by holding a pencil in his mouth, Sam determines to overcome his own disabilities and return to engineering. His faith in God and perseverance eventually return him to a life of doing what he loves most - creating beautiful and lasting roads. In 1913, when Henry Ford's autos are becoming popular and affordable, Sam Lancaster is given the job of designing a highway through the Gorge of the Columbia. Sam first finds some of the most spectacular scenic locations, then plans his road so it passes by these beauty spots. Having suffered illness and disability himself, Sam is always ready to help those in need. Sam's life and commitment are an inspiration to today's children to overcome obstacles and find ways to make a difference in the world.
