This book is set in the middle to late 1800's. Many of these events are true. Russell is the main character who at fourteen (14) years of age wanted to fight in the War Between The States. Many tragic and sometimes funny stories are told of the events that happened during the war. This book is about survival, poverty, happiness, and extreme grief. At times you will cry, other times you will laugh, and times you dread the outcomes of the different events. It's a heartwarming story that you will not want to put down and will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat.
