Robotic Exploration Close to the Sun

This volume presents the proceedings of the workshop on the Scientific Basis for Robotic Exploration Close to the Sun. Designed for a brief and close encounter with the sun between 20 and 3 solar radii above the solar surface, the Solar Probe will directly sample the solar corona, one of the last unexplored regions of the solar system. Some topics presented in this volume include: in situ measurements of the solar wind; current knowledge and future requirements for the Solar Probe; remote sensing measurements of the source and acceleration region of the solar wind; current status of solar wind theory; and the solar probe mission requirements.
