Restoration and Rehabilitation of Threatened Indigenous Trees in Ethiopia

Replanting Indigenous trees is a positive way to improve biodiversity and natural environment. Native planting provides a wide range of benefits including increasing native biodiversity, creating habitat for native wildlife (insects, frogs, reptiles and birds), stabilizing soil, recreating linkages and vegetation sequences, enhancing water quality and landscapes and providing a sense of place. Restoration planting can also be a requirement of resource consent, to remedy or mitigate the adverse effects of a proposed activity. Conservation of indigenous trees will assist carbon sequestration and climate change mitigation strategies. It also assures wise utilization of forest products with technical skills and knowledge; hence enhance the sustainable recreational, cultural and environmental protection value by the nearby farmers.. And the huge potential development may benefit the country's effort to join the middle income countries, and the effort to secure the Millennium development goals.
