Welcome to the Salt Mine, a black ops agency that monitors and manages supernatural activity from its subterranean headquarters in the deep mineral mines of Detroit, Michigan. When magic is real, someone has to keep it in check. When a powerful item goes missing from the Valley of the Magi, Hor-Nebwy has no choice but to summon outside help, namely Nalin Buchholz, code name Hobgoblin. Little does Hobgoblin or the Salt Mine know that the venerable keeper of the eternal sleepers requires Mau-the purloined mummified remains of a cat-to keep his bargain with Agent David Wilson, codename Fulcrum. Will Hobgoblin get his hands on the elusive Mau before it's too late for Fulcrum to find a way out of Avalon?
