An historical novel on Masada, a rock fortress about one thousand three hundred feet above the Dead Sea, where the Jewish Zealots and Sicarii, in revolt against the tyranny of Imperial Rome, made a last stand against the battle hardened men of the Tenth Legion Fretensis. After withstanding a siege of nearly a year the Zealots and Sicarii committed mass suicide, they preferred death above slavery. In this novel Mordechais undying love for Tamar is the only thing that sustained him throughout all his suffering as a gladiator and a galley slave in the Roman Fleet in the hope of seeing his beloved once again after all the years of slavery.
