Audie Dale Smith, after ten years of trying, finally achieves some success as a novelist and he undertakes for the first time a national book tour. As he travels to different cities to give book readings from his controversial novel, he encounters several of his old friends. The reunions are sometimes not completely pleasant because some of his old pals are displeased with their appearances in his first autobiographical novel.Dale's good fortune continues when a film studio buys the rights to his third novel, "An American Elegy." Dale, who holds a visiting writer position at a MFA program in Boston, is scheduled to fly to Los Angeles on a fateful day.
