Beskrivelse
The book is an autobiography of the author's first 15 years that spanned World War II and its end, post-war Germany and three years as an immigrant in Northfield, Minnesota. The book recounts the final year of World War II with all of its bizarre events and the flight of the author and his family in a horse-drawn cart through eastern Austria in the final weeks of World War II, barely a few miles ahead of the fighting front. Post-war Germany, together with the fate of Hungarians who chose not to return to Hungary occupied by Russian troops who were installing a Communist regime, are discussed in the book. Finally, the arrival of the family in Northfield, Minnesota and the first years in the bewildering country that the United States was for immigrants from Central Europe close out the story.
