This novel deals with the theme of a love triangle. Felix is promised to Esther, but suffers humiliation when he loses his job and is unable to pay the crippling bride price. Difficulties arise between the young couple, and then Felix meets Dupe. The novel ends with Felix and Dupe marrying.
