Anne Shirley, the protagonist of the series, is for more than fifteen years ago Ana Blythe, married to the love of his youth, the doctor Gilbert Blythe, live in Ingleside, a large house in Glen St. Mary, on the Island of Prince Eduardo. The couple has six children: Jem, Walter, twin the Nan and Di, Shirley and the small Rilla.
