It has been 53 years since the death of Julius Caesar. Decimus Flavius Antonius lay broken and near death in the forests of western Germania. It is not long before he recalls what has occurred... three Roman legions have been annihilated. Facing an onslaught of barbarians, prejudices, and personal demons, Flavius risks his career and future for a cause much more noble than anything Rome had offered him... a promise made to a dying mother.
