At the printing of this book, there are 37 women leading Fortune 500 companies. This is an improvement from the previous year of 33. There is an ongoing debate about the reasons for the underrepresentation of women. The reasons vary from bias against women by male CEOs and male boards of directors to the assumption that women withdraw themselves from the workforce due to work/ life balance situations. The reasons are debatable.
