Sally through no fault of her own other than being trusting of a friend finds herself caught in what threatens to develop into a ruinous scandal for herself and her family.
It becomes obvious very quickly that the brother of her best friend has also been implicated by rumour as being the person responsible for Sally's downfall. Paul, however had become involved when he responded to a text from his younger brother advising him of the danger to Sally. Reacting, Paul rescued Sally, only to discover a few days later that his name was being linked as the actual perpetrator. His reputation as a successful business man could well be ruined by those mischievous rumours.
Paul an upstanding gent, was distressed by the situation Sally had found herself in. At Paul's instigation, their friendship developed over the weeks following the incident. While helping Sally to overcome the trauma of the incident of attempted rape, he discovered in him a need to protect her in whatever manner he could.
With their names having been linked through the false rumours that had so quickly began to circulate, marriage was he was certain the best way to protect Sally.
Sally while still in shock weeks after the event was by Paul's gentle manner and kindness persuaded to accept his proposal of marriage, when he assured her it would be a marriage of convenience.
Sally however, knew in her heart that her feelings for Paul had already developed to be more than that as a friend, accepted that she could in turn protect Paul by accepting his proposal, while knowing she could well face heartbreak should he never return the love she had for him.
Paul while adapting to having Sally as his wife, discovered that he too wished for more than friendship with her.
Even as they moved into married life, It seemed that they would forever have the rumours hanging over them as they discovered the depths of feelings as they pulled together to make their marriage work.
