Beskrivelse
Fern Henry has always pictured herself living in a better place, somewhere far away from her family's rustic cabin in the middle of the Smoky Mountains. She won't accept a future full of struggles, farming, and raising babies. Not when her Great-Aunt Helen's letters promise so much more.
Fern daydreams of mingling with society's elite, being pampered by servants who take care of her every need, and dressing lavishly from a wardrobe full of gowns and expensive jewelry. Not to mention the opportunity to snag an affluent suitor.
Now that she's eighteen and considered a full-grown woman, she's determined to move to St. Louis and pursue her destiny.
Cyrus Quincy is in love with Fern and has been for as long as he can remember. They grew up together in Cades Cove. Most folks believe her to be conceited; she's too proper and despises getting her hands dirty. But he's seen all the way to her heart and knows she's the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
He's willing to do anything to keep Fern from leaving and refuses to let go of the hope that somewhere deep down inside she has feelings for him, too.
Fern tries to avoid Cyrus, doing her best to stay focused on her new life outside of the cove. But fate brings the unexpected, and her great-aunt's promise to prosper soon takes on a whole new meaning.
