What was once called the United States of America has now been split into two separate nations, the Rural Region and Pröka. Pröka values technological development. The Rural Region considers itself a 'pre-internet' society. Communication between these two nations has been prohibited since the Tech War. 



When 17-year-old Rural Regionite Hazel Kiv discovers an illegal journal from Pröka in the woods, she finds out more about Pröka than she ever dreamed she would. Fully aware of the consequences, Hazel must make a choice between what she feels compelled to do and what is expected of her.
