Food science and technology are probably not well understood in all known areas of technology in developing countries. Several factors contribute to this. On the one hand, it broadly equates the production, processing and preservation of food with "housekeeping" or gastronomy. Second, food science and technology have not been introduced as academic subjects in secondary school curricula in developing countries. Third, with notable exceptions, the food industry and governments have failed to provide the support they deserve to support research in food-related fields. And finally, the lack of funds, or the use of available funds, for trivial or prestigious projects instead of using them for related food production projects. Also worth noting is the fact that the sector is relatively young.
