Prayer is so important that 1 Thessalonians 5:17 exhorts that we should "pray without ceasing." Luke 18:1 urges us to pray and "not faint." James 5:16 promises that the "effectual fervent prayer" of the righteous "availeth much." To "avail" means to produce or result in a benefit, gain, or advantage. The theme of this book is that fervent prayer, which avails much, is a longstanding commitment and devotional lifestyle rather than a mere kneeling position or occasional occurrence. Just as we use a wheel to steer our vehicles, prayer turns the course of daily life to align us as followers of Christ with the driving force of faith in God's Word. Prayer changes things. Prayer changes us. Prayer is powerful. The "will," the "we'll," and the "weal" are all closely interconnected in the power of prayer. Alignment with God's "will," or divine plan, is the first order of business in prayer. Prayer is also the cooperative effort of the community of believers who have determined that "we'll" pray as a united force in spiritual warfare as commanded by God, for we "wrestle not against flesh and blood" (Ephesians 6:12). Prayer for the "weal," or well-being of the nation, is ordained by God in 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." Relying almost exclusively on the language from the scriptures, the author has included in the Appendix of this book several prayers that were written largely with the church setting and community of believers at heart. The prayers in the Appendix are not intended to be a substitute, however, for the leading of the Holy Spirit. Written primarily to the community of believers, this book is a useful study tool for edifying the body of Christ through the foundation of the driving force of the connection of the "will," the "we'll," and the "weal" in the power of prayer. Readers should note that chapter 3 of this book was published as three separate books in 2018 in a series called "Three 'Letters' for Building the Body of Christ," available at Amazon.
