It is important to consider that tourism is a strategy to dynamize the economy of the populations living in protected areas. However, it is essential to guide these activities so that they do not generate impacts on ecosystems. The first objective was to carry out a diagnosis of the territory, in which the natural attractions were identified, the providers of complementary tourism services were identified and the avifauna potential of the protected area was validated. The second objective consisted of determining the characteristics of the profile of the avitourism visitor and calculating the carrying capacity of the identified attractions. Finally, a strategy for the development of birdwatching tourism was formulated by identifying weaknesses, opportunities, strengths and threats.
