All that has been said about play in children allows us to present here only a few remarks on the use of play in psychoanalysis and child psychotherapy.The ex-pressive and creative possibilities of play undoubtedly explain why it constitutes in itself a valid modality of psychotherapy. Psychoanalysts obviously cannot neglect, as we have just shown, the relational implications linked to their presence. They can be summarised as follows:a°) playing in the presence of an adult who provides toys, who leaves one free to play as one wishes and what one wishes, constitutes the essential dynamic of the corrective emotional experience that is instituted:(b°) the very content of the game is colored by the transferential relations that the presence of the neutral analyst, but who avoids playing, contributes to institute;c°) the analyst who does not want to play the game is often forced to play it. He must do so without playing the game of the child he is treating;....
