There were always a few humans, female and male, that hankered to see what was just over the next ridge. Some acted on the longing to venture well beyond their own community, finding new and strange people and critters The number of these 'frontier' people is always small; they didn't worry much about what others thought about them; they focused looking down in the next valley, not back behind them. Blackmon and Morrison's scouts were made up of some of these outward looking people. They ranged out beyond the boundaries of their culture where they found a variety of beings, who were also outliers among their own people. These planet scouts hunted valuable metals that helped pay for expanding the limits of known space.
