Kirby leaves his coastal home waters to visit relatives on Lake Jocassee, a freshwater lake in the mountains of South Carolina on the border of North Carolina, an area known as Gorges State Park. From Devil's Fork to the sunken valley with cemeteries and an old lodge, a steel bridge and crossed by legends of Confederate gold and Cherokee trading villages, the deep lake contains hidden secrets. Once again, Kirby paddles into the unknown to explore a local mystery.
