Beskrivelse
There are a large number of different pesticides. These can be categorized in many ways. Distinction can for instance be made regarding: purpose; chemical group; physical state; formulation and intended mode of application; acute toxicity; environmental persistence; impact on non-target organisms, etc. Each product has its specific advantages and disadvantages, which again vary for different uses. For instance: products that break down very slowly are generally not suitable for use on food crops because of the risk of residues, yet such products may be well-suited for certain applications in vector control such as impregnated mosquito nets or pet collars, where one needs products with a long residual effect. The book discusses at length the effect of non-pesticide diseases. The book also contains the effect of alternative pesticides on biocontrol agents and other non-targeted organisms.
