Emery's parents were murdered at the fairgrounds in Jefferson City, Missouri. Rumors swear that the gypsies running the fair are to blame. Emery's Aunt Estella puts aside her dreams to take care of her young nephew. Meanwhile, a mysterious girl by the name of Darrah Danger appears and disappears from his life depending on whether the fair is in town. Why does she shake every time she is touched? How does she seem to know impossible things? Emery knows she must have a deep secret, but what? Will he figure it out before he falls madly in love with her? Will he be destroyed in the process? Darrah Danger is an introverted girl that is raised by a gypsy mama. She is forced to change schools once a month in order to accommodate her hectic lifestyle. When she attends school, she tries to avoid being touched because of what she might see. Every time she touches someone, their dirty secrets are revealed. Can she keep Emery from learning of her gift? Will her chances of being with Emery dwindle because of the harsh rumors?
