Longtime patrol officer Hal Reiner is accepted into Homicide just at the time that his marital problems worsen. His wife Evelyn wants a divorce because he doesn't pay her enough attention, and demands half of his retirement pension in a financial settlement. Resolute not to share a penny of his pension, Hal decides to kill Evelyn. Realizing fail-safe planning is critical, he must pacify her while he plans her fatal accident. And he must be alert to any unforeseen events that could sabotage his perfect murder. Being mindful of his behavior occupies his every working moment, especially now with his new detective partner, inquisitive Karen Holms. In his favor, the homicides he's investigating becomes his guiding light. But at the same time, he knows full well the uncertainty of planning and carrying out the murder of one's spouse without detection.
