Colorectal cancer refers to the cancer of the rectum or colon. Its symptoms are a change in bowel movement, weight loss, blood in the stool and a persistent state of exhaustion. Consumption of processed meat, red meat and alcohol, lack of physical activity, obesity and smoking are considered risk factors that contribute to the occurrence of this cancer. It can be diagnosed by performing a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy, or by a microscopical examination of a tissue sample. A referral medical imaging determines the spread or localization of the disease. Colorectal cancer can be treated through a combination of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery and targeted therapy.
