When Betty Nelson's mother learns that she has inherited a ranch in the Western U.S., the Outdoor Girls travel with the Nelson family to survey the new property. Once there, they have run-ins with a number of interesting characters, including a mysterious, musically inclined hermit and a grizzled gold miner.
